An Austi class is a space for sharing passages and notes with a group of students. Give them a
set of bookmarks to work through, with instructions and a due date, and see who's imported and
completed it.
Austi classes or Google Classroom?
Austi classes
Built into Austi. Students join with a class code. Best for sharing bookmark sets and collecting short completion notes.
Google Classroom
Assign a chapter or scene to an existing Classroom class, with responses, turn-in and optional reading activity. See Google Classroom help.
You can use both. The Google Classroom connection lives under Teacher tools on the Classes page.
Under Create class, enter a name (for example Year 10 English - Frankenstein) and an optional description.
Use Copy code or Copy invite link and send it to your students.
Students appear under Students as they join.
Assign a shared bookmark set
On the Notes page, filter to the passages you want and choose Create Shared Set (Filtered).
On the Classes page, assign that set to your class. Add instructions and a due date if you like.
Track Student imports and Student completions for each assignment, including any note students leave. Late work is marked Overdue.
You can Edit instructions later, or remove a set from the class.
For students: join and complete
Sign in, open Classes and enter the code from your teacher under Join class, or open their invite link.
Under Classes I've joined, find the assigned bookmark sets with your teacher's instructions and due date.
Import a set to add its passages to your Notes, then read them.
Add an optional note for your teacher and choose Mark complete.
Joining a class doesn't affect your own reading, bookmarks or notes.
Managing classes
Remove a student: this doesn't delete bookmarks they've already imported.
Delete a class: this removes the class only, not your bookmark sets.
Leave a class (students): this doesn't affect the teacher's class.
Classes are saved to your account, so they're available on any device you sign in to.
Privacy and appropriate use
Share class codes only with your students, and follow your school's usual policies. Avoid putting
private or sensitive information in instructions, notes or responses.
